n June 2003, Mayor Menino introduced the Green Building Task Force and announced that the City of Boston would establish the LEED® Silver Rating Standard as the goal for all City-owned building projects.
In January 2007, the Boston Zoning Commission approved several amendments to the Boston Zoning Code to require all projects over 50,000 Square Feet to be designed and planned to meet the “certified” level, using the US Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design™ building rating systems.
Boston would become the largest US City to use LEED® in private building permitting!
